The sky was the color of a bruised plum as I wrangled the kids, Vanessa (bouncing in excitement with a bag of Goldfish crackers), Cindy (already clutching a lukewarm cup of hot cocoa), and my resident teen cynic Kelly (sulking in the back with AirPods firmly lodged), into our new 2025 Kia Carnival from West Hills Kia for our grand tour of Bremerton neighborhood Christmas lights. It gleamed a pearly white in the fading light, a stark contrast to our usual dented minivan.

Twas two weeks before Christmas, and all through the car,
Not a creature was grumbling, near or far.
The Pacifica gleamed, a silver delight,
New from West Hills, a pre-holiday sight.

A crisp November morning greeted us as we piled into the new Chevrolet Silverado 1500, a handsome beast I'd snagged from Haselwood Chevrolet in Bremerton. The pearl white paint gleamed in the nascent sunlight, its imposing size a source of both excitement and nervous anticipation for the little ones.

Eloise, her nose buried deeper into that backpacking guide than a truffle pig rooting for mushrooms, barely grunted an acknowledgment when I fired up the trusty steed, a 1999 Volkswagen Eurovan MV, affectionately nicknamed "The Wanderer." Its boxy exterior, painted a cheerful shade of ivory, stood out amidst the sea of sleek sedans on the highway.

"Just unlock, pop the top, and boom – instant adventure palace."

Diary Entry

I woke this morning with a strange sense of dread. A dark cloud had settled over my soul, perhaps anticipating the day ahead or the lingering unease from my recent ordeal. I ventured into the digital wilderness of Craigslist, seeking a new, used car. Uninspired by the plethora of vanilla vehicles, I stumbled upon the unicorn car. A vintage Mustang, a relic of a bygone era. The ad promised a classic beauty, a time capsule of chrome and leather. It was a siren song…luring me deep into the woods.

A cackle erupted from my throat, echoing through the cavernous showroom floor. “My minions,” I boomed, my voice dripping with theatrical delight, “Halloween approaches! A time for ghouls and goblins, for costumes and candy… and for a little team bonding!”
